Rest Today in Christ

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

Why are you so tired? What is it about life that has you down? Keep your chin up. There is always hope as long as Jesus is around.

We all have secret fears to face, and this is something that wears us out. We need to have a lot of courage to face our fears and give witness to the Gospel.

Jesus wants to help you face your fears. Can you do that for him?

Jesus had to face his fears when he was preparing for violent suffering and death to achieve our salvation.

What wears you out? We can be worn out by routine and monotony at work or school. It might be tough to do the same tasks over and over. Jesus asks us to come to him. He wants to take out the monotony of our lives. When we live with awareness, even the most mundane things can take on new meaning.

For example, the sun rises and sets every day. Yet, when we take the time to observe it closely, it is often an awesome event. We might even hike up a mountain early in the morning to appreciate the sunrise. But, when the sun peeks through the drapes and wakes us up, we feel annoyed and resentful. It is all a question of perspective.

Jesus knows what human tiredness feels like and he wants to free us. He wants to help us carry our burdens. When Simon the Cyrene helped Jesus to carry his cross on the way to Golgotha, he was not doing anything that Jesus does not do for us every day of our lives.

We become overwhelmed by fear when we stop believing that there is a safe place that shelters us from the attacks we are facing. Jesus wants us to feel safe in his arms. When you pray, do not reduce everything to a series of petitions. Give Jesus space to work on your heart and make you feel safe and loved in his arms.

Question for the day: When is the last time you felt safe because you are beloved by God?
